Among the key issues that stood out in this quarter of the media monitoring report is the discourse on the nuances of free speech and identity politics, the launch of the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) and the data privacy issue with the consulting firm engaged with this software system that holds information of millions of mobile users in Nepal. Along with the news of modernization through the electronic voting system (EVMs) this election, there was also news of the formation of an e-governance commission under the Prime Minister's office and the hassle that comes with registering a National Identity Card (NID) and e-passport. The rise in popularity of the unregistered ride-sharing app- InDriver, privacy politics among government officials, and online violence, among others were reported in our media monitoring report.

Our objective in producing commissioned content is to hear perspectives, stories and lived realities of the community we work with, especially women, queer individuals and those who are at the margins within the socio-political-cultural structure of Nepal.

From the month of July - September, we had Sano Prayas's written piece on "कोही किन अश्लील ?" (Why is someone considered obscene") which explores the nuances in which "obscenity" is seen in a conservative country like Nepal. They write "the problem with our society is not how much we show or cover our bodies but rather about our freedom, agency and consent that we practice". While Shailee's original informative piece on "Internet Access, Digital Rights and Privacy in Madhesh" written in English got translated into Bhojpuri language. The article talks about various issues of digital rights in Madhesh through a feminist lens.

KathaKaa Kura is a digital storytelling workshop, that explores powerful individual stories and participants' lived experiences through the use of digital mediums (video/audio). Through this workshop, we try to bring out stories that are usually sidelined in the mainstream storytelling culture and practices.

For this year's KathaKaa Kura, we had 14 incredible stories surrounding digital rights, identity, indigenous heritage, body image, feminism, mental health, personal relationships and reflections came through while working with 15 inspiring human beings at Kathakaa Kura: Digital Storytelling Workshop 2022. We had queer individuals, artists, young women, writers, poets, journalists, disability rights activists, etc. coming together to co-create a safe and welcoming space for different alternative narratives that centred around the stories that are important for each individual. We are currently publishing a few stories about the workshop through our social media and website.

In collaboration with Paluwa Pleaders, we organized a "Dialogue on Laws Relevant to Online Violence" with the objective of introducing online violence as a violation of digital rights applicable in digital spaces in the mainstream discourses and equipping law students with critical analysis of the laws relevant to online violence. The dialogue was organized on 9 July 2022 in the participation of law scholars and critiques which based the discussion on Body & Data's research report on "Mapping Laws relevant to Online Violence In Nepal". The discussion shed light on various digital rights issues such as freedom of expression, right to privacy, and freedom from violence and how one issue intersects with the other. We also discussed the holistic aspect and approach to digital rights when it comes to the security and safety of women, queer folks and marginalised populations.
